Widows and Offerings

lshillingpinehaven

When I went to the mailbox this morning to retrieve yesterday’s mail, I found this envelope. It is a small wonder it even made it to me, but God put just the right people in just the right place to ensure its delivery. When I opened it, I was instantly moved because of its contents.

It reminds me of the widow’s offering found in Mark 12, a story of a poor woman who puts in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Jesus calls his disciples to him and says, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” Just as Jesus immediately calls on his disciples to tell them about the widow’s offering, so too did I immediately send out messages to our team about the widow’s offering we received in hopes it would be a great encouragement to them.

I hope this is a great encouragement to you as well. I last wrote in May about how we were not yet fully funded, but how we were trusting in God’s great provision, believing firmly that where God guides, He will provide. And boy, oh boy, did He ever provide.

Over the last month and a half, I have had the privilege to watch numerous widow’s offerings pour into our ministry. Some of them were like the one we received yesterday, worth small amounts in the world economy. Some of them have been large amounts in the world’s economy, but even they were widows’ offerings when understood in the context from which they came. More importantly, they have all been immeasurable in God’s economy. With every donation we received that brought us to the point of now being fully funded for the upcoming school year, I felt God’s provision pouring out over us, reminding us that He has a great plan and we need only to trust in Him, the great Jehovah Jireh.

Words of gratitude are never enough to express how deeply each person’s support means to us. Whether financially and/or through prayer and encouragement, we deeply treasure each of you who are coming alongside us in the ministry to become part of our Mission III family. More importantly, we hope you know how much God sees you too, and how much He yearns to provide for your deepest needs. We pray daily that somehow we can be a small piece of his grand puzzle, that somehow we can be His hands and feet for each of you who are doing life with us in this ministry.

We are beyond excited for the upcoming school year and all the ways God will move among us as we work together as a family in our community to love Him, love others, and serve both. I am praying that we will each day be like the widow, willingly giving Him everything we have because we know that spiritual poverty is so much more detrimental than any material poverty we could ever encounter. So here’s to our Great God; may our lives be always and only for the praise of His glory, forever and ever, amen!

Lesa
